Tourist family robbed at gunpoint in Pointe Aux Cannonier
A French family on holiday in Mauritius were the victims of a robbery on Tuesday in Pointe- Aux-Cannonier, coming face to face with three men armed with a revolver and machetes.

But thanks to a small fan, the men were apprehended by police and appeared at Mapou District Court yesterday on a provisional charge of larceny with violence.
They are Kanchalall Monbee, 53, Pierre-Louis Desire, 35, and Guillaume Augustin, 32, all said to be “bouncers”. They were denied bail as the police believe that they might interfere with the course of the investigation.
According to information gathered , the arrests might help Grand Bay CID to uncover a network of robbers they have been tracking for the past few months. The three suspects will also be quizzed about another robbery which occurred last month when a couple was threatened with a weapon and robbed of Rs1 million worth of jewels.
The three men were arrested by the Grand Bay CID at Petit-Raffray. In their car was a fan. Quizzed by the officers, they were unable to explain where the fan came from. The previous night, a French tourist reported that he was victim of a robbery and also said that amongst the things taken by the robbers was a fan.
The suspects were taken to Grand Bay police station for further enquiry and finally confessed. On Tuesday night, the French family was asleep when they were woken strange noises in their bungalow.
They were confronted by three men, one of whom produced a revolver and threatened to kill them if they did not cooperate. The robbers took everything they could find, ranging from the fan to a TV and the tourists’ money.
The Frenchman managed to go to the police station after the incident to make a statement. He told a local radio station yesterday: “I had the fright of my life. On top of that I had my kids with me. Thank God nothing happened to us.
“It is not my fist visit to Mauritius. But this is surely my last visit. I don’t want my family to suffer the same trauma again.”
