Sada Curpen back in jail
A month after being freed from prison, Sada Curpen was back behind bars last night.

Arrested on Sunday night at the airport, he appeared yesterday at the District Court of Pamplemousses on a provisional charge of “giving instruction to Jacques Francisco Pierre, also known as Milate Ti-Ruz, to kill Denis Fine”.
The police objected to his release on bail and lodged an objection to departure against him. Curpen will appear in the same court on March 15.
Jacques Francisco Pierre, arrested on January 4 under a provisional charge of murder, was allegedly the right-hand man of Sada Curpen, who was released from prison last month after being cleared of a drugs conspiracy charge.
Information gathered revealed that Sada Curpen was about to board a plane for Paris on Sunday night when he was arrested. He had in his possession around Rs1.7 million in foreign and local currencies.
He also had on him three bank cards, one of which bore the name of a certain “Natacha”. Investigators are looking for that person.
A senior officer of the Anti Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) confirmed that the money was found on Curpen and “he will have to explain the source of such a large sum of cash”.
However, he said that the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) was inquiring mainly into the murder of Denis Fine, a former Mauritian builder working in France, who was murdered on January 3 at his bungalow in Pamplemousses.
Police suspect Curpen is connected to the killing. Investigators have also confirmed that the murder was related to a Subutex drugs network.
During the initial stage of the murder investigation, the “Curpen Subutex Connection” was often mentioned.
Shakeel Mohamed, legal counsel for Curpen, said after the hearing yesterday: “I’ve heard about the money-laundering issue, but there is only one count on the provisional information, and that pertains to giving instruction to commit murder.
“The police have no evidence whatsoever against my client, be it direct, indirect or circumstantial. They are abusing their power and authority.”
For Mr Mohamed, “there is not an iota of evidence that the police have to warrant such provisional information against my client. I’m hereby asking for the information to be struck out”.
The magistrate, Maryse Panglose-Cala, has reserved her ruling on Mr Mohamed’s motion for March 18.
During the initial statements given in connection with the Denis Fine murder, Roobeenaz Curpen, sister of Sada Curpen and a close friend of Denis Fine, said that Mr Fine told her on a flight from Dubai to Mauritius on December 28 that his life was in danger.
“Denis told me that my brother, Sada (Curpen), instructed Milate Ti-Ruz to bring his gang to beat him up,” stated Ms Curpen. Curpen will be confronted with this information by investigators of the MCIT.
Our sources also reveal that investigators will lodge a formal request to different banks here for a list of Sada Curpen’s banking activities since his release on February 11. The owner of the card which bore the name “Natacha” will have to explain why and how her bank card was in the possession of Curpen.
The murder of Denis Fine was committed at around 11.55pm on Sunday, January 3. Fine, suspected by police to be close to the Curpen Subutex Connection, collapsed on the terrace of his bungalow after being shot in the head.

Sada, remain where you are, we don’t need you outside…………………………
