Mauritian students will be taught not to speak loudly in their native tongue or display signs of wealth such as iPods when travelling on trains at night, as part of a strategy to crack down on violent robberies.

Robberies in Melbourne’s western suburbs jumped by 27 per cent last financial year. Police estimated almost a third of victims were of Indian appearance.

A special police group has been formed to combat the robberies amid fears that some are racially motivated and that Indian international students are soft targets because they carry iPods and laptops on trains late at night.

The Federation of Mauritian Students of Australia says Melbourne, which has about 33,000 mauritian international students, may no longer be seen as a safe destination.

Lets go straight to the point, white australians are racist, there’s no doubt about it, they are dishonest as well as crooks. I live in the UK and i am an immigration officer based at heathrow airport and my wife is a mauritian citizen of indian origin, i have on severals occasions refused entry to white australians to the UK simply because most of them tell lies when they are being interviewed and if they are given a tourist visa, they end up overstaying in the country and therefore working illegally as well.
As a white european, i will never travel to australia and suggest anyone not to as well, especially if you are of indian origin. BOTTOM LINE IS THAT MOST AUTRALIANS ARE RACIST!!!!

  2. WaWA

    To everyone..

English people are as much as the aussies… its not that i’m aussie..
i’m a mauritian too.. but we need to accept it.. we r in their country… we need to abide by THEIR rules…

i don’t accept violence too.. but we r not in our country for that the least issue you can bribe anyone (not everyone)..

SOME Mauritians like “the head himself” has racism mind too in Mauritius (VICE VERSA OF WHAT WE THINK ABOUT THE INDIANS HERE)…

By the way, i’m in Sydney and it’s completely different here though Mauritians already dealing with drugs, SMUGGLING, where we have Mauritians you”ll see FRAUD and it’s really bad…It’s a shame…

HOW CAN THESE PEOPLE SEEING OTHERS SPOILING THEIR COUNTRY????

THIS LINK GIVES ALL THE ANSWERS.. http://www.kotzot.com/news/mauritian-involved-in-multimillion-fraud-arrested-in-australia.html

Comme on dit.. un example parmi des milliers…
I only wanted to say it LOUD: It’s not fair to say Most Aussie r RACIST when we all have it in our blood…

    Best Regards…

  3. Mark

I would like to point out to WaWA that if someone commits a crime, regardless of his colour and background, he or she becomes a criminal and if it is an arrestable offence then he or she will be arrested by the authorities. My point is very straight forward, there are millions of criminals across the world and some of them are involved in fraud etc, if the media isn’t interested, then it will go unnoticed whereas if the criminal is a foreign national, then the media will blow it out of proportion like the mauritian involvement in a multimillion fraud.
The english is very tolerant and the majority of us aren’t racist like myself. We live in a modern society and everyone’s suggestions are welcome, however there is a minority who are racist but they don’t go around and attack mauritians or any other non-white and non-english. If you want to live in a country where your rights are recognised and practised, then United Kingdom is the answer.
I am a patriot, i love my country and i wouldn’t go anywhere else to live but i have noticed that mauritians leave their country on a weekly basis, why???? Are mauritians patriots???? Does the government of mauritius looks after its people???? Why are foodstuffs prices out of control in mauritius???? Can anyone ask the government why???? Will they be allowed to speak their mind???? Do they have freedom of speech????
We english, we don’t go around and advertise the crimes of mauritians in the UK, do you know that quite few mauritians have been arrested for identity fraud???? Did any of us beat them up (battu a mort)???? I think that we english we treat and welcome mauritians and any other foreign nationals better that any other country in the world.

  4. Aussie stud

    Mark..

Y u married a mauritian??? u shud choose one from ure country man.. the reason is the same for ure answer..

did u see how many mauritians got SHOT like dogs in UK???

Y the immigration deport ‘US’ Mauritians??? RACISM my dear…

    regrds

  5. Mark

    I welcome Aussie stud’s questions.
Why did i married a mauritian citizen? I stayed in mauritius for 3 months upon request from the Government of Mauritius (Immigration Department) in order to train and brief mauritian immigration officers, my wife was at that time an immigration officer in Mautitius and we carried out immigration raids in mauritius as part of an exercise and the training. As you have already noticed, I am not a racist and I could have married any other person either from my country or any other country but i did not because its my choice and i believe everybody has a choice and free will. If you are living in Australia and you think that Australian are not racist then you never know, you might get married to an Australian.
Did i see how many Mauritians got shot like dogs in UK? I have never heard of mauritian citizens getting shot in the UK, do you have any proof? if yes, could you please include a link within your next comment. However i would like to point out that if you carry a gun with you in the UK and if the weapon is quite visible, then there is a very good possibility that UK Armed Police will shoot you down, no matter if you are British or Mauritian.
Why the immigration deport “US” Mauritians? If a foreign national would like to live in the UK, he or she will have to apply for visas, resident permit etc, we all know that rules are rules, if a foreign national is found to be living illegally in the UK, no matter where the foreign national is from, no matter what colour and race the foreign national is, he or she will be subject to deportation, its absolutely clear. If you are currently in Australia on a visa, and lets say that your visa has run out, do you think that the Australian Immigration will let you stay on even though they know your visa has run out????
Do you know that in Mauritius, there are deportations taking place on a weekly basis???? Majority of illegal immigrants in mauritius are from Madagascar and the island of comorro. Do you know that the textile industry in mauritius are employing immigrants from Sri Lanka and The Phillipines on a monthly basis???? I think that you should do some more research before you post any more comments Aussie stud, however your comments are always welcome no matter how immature they are and will be.

  6. welldo

    well said mark u r a star.

  7. Aussie stud

    Mark… We Aussie r better than U.. u can’t accept it mannnn

u r the most immature to treat others as Racism when U R THE MOST RACIST

  8. Mark

    This goes to Aussie stud,
I know for a fact that you are angry because what i have mentionned about Mauritius and racism in Australia are absolutely true and you know that its true as well, however, you can think and believe what you like, i simply cannot change that and all i can say is that you need to be much more open minded.
Based on your very last comment, you sound very young and naive, i am therefore not going to bother because you are simply not worth it and i wish you good luck with your studies in Australia.

  9. yann

Wow guys, love the debate that`s going on. I live in australia, married to an australian(mauritian origin). Look guys lets be straight forward here, racism is till present in UK and certainly in Australia too,you can change the way people think about certain things man,but i have to say that living here is not that easy but i`ve embrassed the aussie way after been here for three years, stuff mauritius, all i miss rom there is my family and that`s it.
I do think that australia is a much better place to live than uk-mostly from feedback i received from friends living in uk.
Man aussie are very easy going i reakon and welcoming,if you`re respectful and do the right thing man, you`re good man!
When it comes to patriotism man i say, look after the country that`s gonna look after you man(that`s surely not mauritius). By the way i think there`s a lot of accepted racism in mauritius and shit load of corruption, this country is doomed.

  10. Wai

    Bye Yann.. well said..
Look after the country that`s gonna look after you man(that`s surely not mauritius)..

  11. riki

    riki…
ure wrong… itz nt the same everywhere…

    regards

  13. Mark

    Hello Wai,

I have indeed read your link and I don’t see the point. I do know for a fact that a mauritian citizen under the name of Nadim Kurrimbukus has been convicted of murdering 23-year-old Charlie Davies, who was set alight outside his family home in Staines(England) in June 2008.
Unfortunately for Nadim Kurrimbukus who has now committed a crime regardless of his race and nationality, has now become a criminal and like in every country, criminals are always brought to justice under that country jurisdiction. Just like if a british citizen commits a crime in mauritius, the mauritius police force and relevant government bodies will of course bring him or her to justice under the jurisdiction of the republic of mauritius.
Therefore Nadim Kurrimbukus will be sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on a day yet to be decided in the week beginning Monday 15 June 2009.
So therefore Wai, i don’t think that you have a very good sense of reasoning and i think that you are an absolute prat!!!

    Hello riki,

You sound like you are very uneducated and basically you don’t know how to spell some of the words you have mentionned in your comment, i think that you need to go back to pre-primary school instead, what do you think riki??? I think that i have been quite fair with you, don’t you think???

  21. Gerard

    Relax, people!!!!
I’ve been in Melbourne for the last 15 years and I’ve lived in the centre of the City for the last 4 years!! D*ckheads are everywhere, that’s true, but they’re equally Australian, Mauritian, Indian, whatever!!
You start throwing your differences in people’s faces, and talk (and SWEAR!) in your own language, because you KNOW noone else will understand, and you have only yourself to blame if it pisses people off!!
The thing is, (and I SWEAR this is true!): Australia is FAAAAARRRR less racist than Mauritius ever is, and I have personally NEVER had anyone say, do, or imply anything to be based on my colour or my race! I’ve been promoted as fast as the other guy, and live as an equal in this wonderful country.
Australians are very accepting of people’s differences and most of them are first or second or third generation migrants themselves.
So, RELAX, and stop freaking out:
This is ONE dude that got busted up, and the reason why it might be indians that get bashed in the western suburb might simply be because they are easier targets: They not as tall and big as Aussies or new zealanders and they look harmless compared to some of the tough bastards around here. (Maybe I’ve never been bothered because I’m 6ft2 and built like a brick shithouse??)
It’s just survival of the fittest: Race has nothing to do with it!!!!

  25. maria

what i can say is MArk might be right, i understand his point. Ive been living in the Uk for 2 years only and never faced any racial abuse. i think the brits are very nice and open minded people..of course there are some idiots, but idiots are everywhere..

i couldnt finish my studies for some reasons. i went back home without oversatying. after 2 years i decided to finish it but unfortunately i didnt get my student visa for the UK. i have paid the university and done everything.

Now my question to Mark, as an immigration officer – the reason they gave me was that i was working more that 20hours and wasnt abibing to the rules. if i could show you my payslip maybe you will be abe to give me a good reason because it clearly says on my payslip that i have been working 15hrs and been paid on top of the 15hrs 15hr holiday pay.

what do you understand by holiday pay? i reckon the reason they gave me was irrelevant MArk, and i was really really disappointed and depressed as it was my future that they have gepertised. my opinion is that some officer at the embassy do not do their job properly, they do not go deep into their inverstigation and who knows they havent even read my documents and go through it properly.they also said that i have changed my degree for a certificate, when i have sent them my result script and it clearly say that the certificate is for the level i have attained.i havent changed anything i just didnt complete my degree so they gave me a certificate for the level i have attained. jesus christ do they not understand english or what?

how will you explain that MARK? i am asking you because sound like you have a good knowledge of how things work and i agree with everthing you have sai, even about the governement in mauritius is it so true.

    cheer

  26. frankl

Australia is a remote island and aloof from the rest of the world. May be the history of australia might help here…who immigrated to australia in the first place or shall we say who got dumped on the island. What can we expect from a rough DNA profile? . However , may i kindly suggest to some who express their views on this to experience living with the boers in south africa.

  27. DJeet

i feel so bad for mauritians being stereotyped as indians and facing all those racist challenges. I’m so sure that we Mauritians do not even speak loudly as compared to people from India or China.
I’m studying in Philadelphia and I should say that people here are genuinely nice and understanding. They ask questions where you’re from and try to get to know you instead of judging you based on skin or color. I have cousins studying in Australia and now I’m so concerned about him after reading what’s been happening over there.
After reading all those posts on this website i feel so disgusted about some comments. They not only depict short-mindedness and ignorance, but stupidity also when answering and explaining their points. The problem might lie in the fact that they do not know english enough. (To Mark: I feel bad for you. I apologize for the stupid comments my fellow mauritians wrote back to you. Mark, don’t bother writing back to them; it’s just gonna a waste of time and energy)
My advice to you Aussies – try not to associate or make groups with other fellow mauritians and speak the same language. Try to embrace the culture and blend in the society; learn the language, make good friends and have fun. Open up yourself and be nice to everyone. People know you as an individual not by the way you look or dress (although there is a lot of prejudices, but that’s everywhere).
    Good luck guys!
if things dont work out well – please return back home
u dont wanna mess with your life

  31. melcom

Most posts on here are irrational. Racism exists everywhere but they are committed by a some people who are narrow minded, don’t go blaming a whole nation. Mark, The English man seems to forget about the riots in Brixton; the Amristsar massacre, in India, by some of his forefathers, should I go on? Stop beating your chest, saying you are any better than the rest of the world. You are racist too, towards white Australians. Border Security, a TV show in Australia, shows a lot of UK travellers, black and white, who lie about their intended visit in Australia; I am sure they don’t represent the whole of UK. People who beat up and rob others are simply criminals targetting the weak and helpless; it has nothing to do with race. They will do it to anyone they perceive as easy targets; the jails are full of them in any country. Unfortunately, racism will always exist because people will always fear whoever is different to themselves but fortunately not everyone is narrow minded!

  32. Mark

    Hello Melcom,
I have to admit that you are quite right with the fact that most post on here are unfortunately not rational and i therefore admire your ratiocination, however you have mentioned riots and massacre which have regrettably happened in the past and as a matter of fact, every empire within their time of glory in every centuries, acted upon greed, power seeking and cruelty in order to conquer and expand their empires, so therefore you can go on if you wish to, but i must remind you that your post might become irrelevant and as well as mine. I am not in any way beating my chest by saying that I am any better than the rest of the world because nobody is perfect and perfection can never be achieved simply because human’s expectations are well beyond comprehension, however, i am pointing out that The United Kingdom is one of the best country you could possibly live in as i have travelled to every single first class world countries and majority of the third world countries in the world in order to come to this fair conclusion, now you can think what you like and you can say what you like, but i would like to ask you this, how many countries have you visited? including islands and continents. You have accused me of being racist towards white australians, well i am not a racist first of all as i believe in democracy and it is based on the principle that everyone in society is equal regardless of their colours and background, secondly human race itself is a race and the only difference there is, is simply the colour, so therefore can you enlighten me on how can i be racist towards white australians when i am white myself? Regarding UK travellers who lied about their intended visit or stay in Australia, i have to admit that one of the enlish cultures is lying and sometime it is so blatant that you have to laugh in their face, so therefore you will find quite a lot of english people lying and backbitting on a daily basis, obviously not everyone applies that culture and as in every nation and nationality, you will find some of them who love their cultures which is either wrong or offending and some of them prefer to be honest and well mannered. This of course goes on in every countries as well as Australia otherwise this article about “panique chez les etudiants mauriciens” would have never been on this website, i would certainly like you to provide proof where mauritian students in the UK have been attacked “battu a mort”. I have noticed that you pointed out that people whoever beat up and rob others are simply criminals targetting the weak and helpless, did you not notice the following?:

And you have the guts to say that it has nothing to do with race, i tell you what mate, you are one pathetic gimmick. Any open minded person will tell you that, racism exists, you cannot ignore it or stop it but you can deal with it and it is the know-how that ultimately prevails.

    Hello Rikki,
English Language is the most spoken language in the world, i think that you should show some interest in english because La Langue Francaise is a beautiful and romantic language but unfortunately it is not spoken across the whole world, i also think that you need to go on an anger management course, good luck.

    Hello Jesse,
You cannot reason when you are angry, so therefore you need an anger management course as soonest as possible, good luck.

    Hello Maria,
I strongly believe that you have been treated unfairly, so therefore you should have the right to appeal and you must appeal, unfortunately it is the right procedures when it comes to working restrictions in the UK, i advise you not to accept any holiday pay in the furture otherwise it will affect your current position and situation, and as you are probably aware, the student entry clearance is now based on a new points system which is similar to HSMP. I also advise you not to look desperate when renewing your student visa in the UK and every answers that you supplied must make sense and must be relevant, if the answer is a yes or a no, just say yes or no and do not justify your answers unless you are asked to. I wish you best of luck Maria.

  33. hi! i would just like to says that its totally normal for me,whats happening in Melbourne right now. 1st would anyone feel if foreigners were slowly taking over your country??Its exactly whats going on there is the Aussies are being kind enough to take student and immigrants in this massive peace of land to work together and make it better. The Indian doesn’t mix with others they come in a foreign country with all their crap way of living and applies it in another country which for me i think is unacceptable!! Call this racism??maybe or maybe not because everything happens for a reason!!! So people DON’T BE A VICTIM but open yours eyes and see what your doing wrong in a country which isn’t yours. If you got an opportunity to do be in another country taking it don’t abuse it!! To say that im a Mauritian who left my island for a partly similar reason!! Its not everywhere that you people will be able to apply your rules to try to take over!! now you know make sure its not in Australia or Melborne.hahaha fair enough!

Mark, you are simply a dip stick who is trying to monopolise this tread. First of all Brixton’s riots did not happen in some distant empires; took place in 1981, 85, and 95. Just because you married a mauritian of colour, and you are white does not automatically make you non racist, even to white people (read back what you posted). Racism is not just about colour, it’s also about cultures and percieved differences. Just because you’ve visited many countries does not make you an authority on anything; as a visitor you get to go home and live the nightmares behind; a visitor can have empathy but still does not experience life the same as the locals. You have your head stuck so far up your arse that you can’t hear what anyone is saying. Of course racism exists, otherwise you wouldn’t bother pointing out your colour. But what some sensible people have pointed out, here, is that criminals do not necessarily care about any race and gender, if you are a soft target they will violate you. Mauritians get killed in Mauritius, in Uk and anywhere else for that matter; just Google it, 17yrs old Mauritian knifed to death in UK, 10/11/08, by rival asians youths. What not news to you because asians are not white? Teaching people, in precarious situations, not to display their apparent wealth is most sensible advice. I am sure you will come back with some cheap shots because that’s how you show your self importance.

  35. Mark

    Hello Melcom,
There is no such shot called cheap shot and I firmly believe that everyone of us has the right to being able to speak their mind, however I do believe that you have an issue with the UK and the English. I would certainly like to know whether you were a student in the UK for some years and unfortunately you failed to renew your student visa where you were caught out on a routine police and immigration check while driving your car, you were then locked up for a few hours and because the immigration were unable to locate your passport, you were then released but you were told that you must report to croydon office to sign on a regular basis, you then decided to flee the country because you were ashamed of the fact that you will have to report to croydon office and sign due to being illegal in the UK, if I am not wrong your surname begins with H. If it is you, then I also believe that you are currently in Mauritius and working as a manager in the banking industry.
If it is you, then that goes to show that you do hate the english and you are a racist.
If it is not you, then please accept my apology.
Regarding your latest comment, I will simply not going to comment any further, however, I would like you to travel to Australia and see for yourself because there is a say that says “You cannot judge a person unless you have walked a mile in his/her shoes”
    Good luck.

    Mark,
Your apology is graciously accepted, you are wrong on all counts. I have never been to the UK and I have been in Australia for decades. I have relatives living in the UK in excess of 50yrs. As I said I do not have any problems with any race, just individuals who throw dirt at anyone and everyone. People are the same everywhere, some good some bad; we cannot judge a whole nation by the actions of a few individuals. Unfortunately, the world is just not that safe anymore. I will not let my son travel, on his own, on the trains at night; he is very fair skin and does not look Indian or asian – as I said, criminals are not fussed about what you look like. I must point out that violent crime is not a daily occurence on the trains but I don’t want to take any chance (I am sure most parents do the same thing all over the world). Australia is well over 31 times bigger than the whole of UK and the population is not concentrated in major cities/towns like in the UK; so potentially, one may, sometimes, find onself as a lone traveller, in a train carriage, during off peak times. I can imagine how a lot of those students would feel in such a big country with no close family support, life at a much faster pace, language difficulties, high cost of living, jobs not easy to come by, and some even have false expectations based on unscrupulous advice given by equally unscrupulous agents; given time we all adjust. There was an episode of The Simpsons on TV where it was “kick a red hair day” and some jackass copycat the episode and beat up some red hair kids. So my point, all along, lets not cast aspersions on the whole of Australia based on a few criminal activities and jackass. Let’s hope that this nation blaming game is over.

I am half English and half Mauritian. I don’t give a damn about what you all saying. However I do agree to the comment posted by Mark on March 8, 2009 at 4:34 pm. There is a lot of tolearnce and acceptance in the U.K.

Guys, there is good and bad in every culture. Drg trafficking etc happen in all communities. We all know it’s bad. I work for the Head Office of a bank in London as Accountant and I wonder why doesn’t everyone work their way up and get a good, well-paid job rather than discussing about racism etc…, There are Mauritians who work with me and are Professionals.

In fact I can say Racism exists among Mauritians THEMSELVES a lot more. My mum is Hindu and whenever I go to Mauritius I have heard and seen lots of racism going on like Creole not liking Hindus/Muslims. Or people who call themselves “Mulate” think they are superior by pretending they are PURE WHITE.

In organisations like ROGERS, if you are not “Mulate”, you can never get a good or top-level job. There might be one / two exceptions.

I think the whole population of MAURITIUS should change their MENTALITY to make a BETTER Mauritius.

Teach foreigners how to behave and talk before stepping to any foreign country! I have been to Russia for around 10 years. Russians certainly don’t like people talking loudly in their foreign language in public places and certainly don’t like when they show off! They are considered to be the most racists as well. So be it Australia, UK, USA or any other place, first learn to behave, live according to the country’s culture, adopt it, be modest, then tell me if you see any difference. That’s my advice to you all. Regards.

Zats people they find england a place of shit, and a place of muslims like U to explode it, and U u want to live there?I agree, coz u r born in a bombist religion, so cheers man. U must celebrate”

…..what a knob! Firstly, try and write using grammatically-correct English! Secondly, I challenge you to publically make the same moronic and islamophobic statement in Plaine Verte! Alas, being the castrated piece of junk that you undoubtedly are, hiding on the internet whilst making such communalist mouth-farts is in keeping with a aborted foetus such as yourself.

  41. Melt

    *CORRECTION*

TYPO error: “a aborted” should read “an aborted”

    hello guys,
i’ve been through all your posted comments and what i observed is that some of you are talking nonsense…
I wont be long and boring. One fact, everybody must admit is that racist is everywhere on this planet !!
I’m a mauritian/hindu living in Australia (sydney) for the past 3 years and I must say I’m enjoying my stay here. It’s such a nice country.
I go out almost eveywhere and even at night to pubs, clubs and i never had any problems so far, thanks God.
Even at work, everybody is nice to me and i feel loved by everyone, no racist…
May be I’m the exception or very lucky, thanks God for that.

I think one must know how to behave, show respect and be polite wherever they are living….my secret if that may help.

    cheers everybody.

hi everyone, im a mauritian aussie who has lived in australia all my life.
I run my own business, employ different people, have travelled the world, kept touch with my community and married a beautiful mauritian girl
World surveys on standard of living confirm aussie cities are in the top 5 cities in the world to live, consistently and that is why we have so many people (uk, indians, sth africans, euros, kiwis etc) breaking down the doors to get in.
I know many mauritians students in aus and 99.9% want to stay and i encourage them as much as possible.
Its interesting the comments on racism and generalising, but i urge you before commenting look at your countrys’ history, politics and culture (whether english, mauritian, indian etc) and compare it to that of australia and you may go quiet(please note the english colonised aus).
Also, the news here indicates that most of the violence against indian students have been from minority ethnic groups in melb.
As for people like “Mark”, im guessing by his job, he is uneducated thus treat his comments appropriately.
Lets teach people to look for similarities and not differences.
    Cheers
