Krishnee Bunwaree today admitted posting racist comments on a particular Facebook page a week ago. This resident of Vallée-des-Prêtres, aged about twenty years old, was brought into police custody on Wednesday 1 August at the end of an interrogation at the Cybercrime Unit to Central Barracks.
She will be presented in Court this Thursday, August 2 and will be provisionally charged under the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Act and the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crime Act. If found guilty under section 46(n) of the ICT Act, she faces up to five years in prison and a fine of one million rupees.
Her aunt told Radio Plus she did not understand how such remarks were published on the Facebook page. “We are primarily a Mauritian family. We make no distinction between Hindus, Muslims and Creoles, “she said
