BIO

Aisha was born on <st1:date Month="8" Day="23" Year="1988">the 23rd of August 1988</st1:date> from Mauritian Parents and grew up in South London with Mother, Father and elder sisters Roxane Marie and Alexandra .

She started singing at the tender age of 4. Her icons were Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.

Performing seems to be in her blood, with her mother who performed onstage acting and singing whilst in Mauritius.

Aisha was only 6 years old when she asked her mum to buy her a guitar which she practiced herself, then later on joined a steel pans group and also took part in classes for tenor drums and became very good at them by the age of 10.

At 11 years old she then trained towards the profession she wanted to be in. Having attended <st1TonguelaceName>Pimlico</st1TonguelaceName> <st1TonguelaceType>Secondary School</st1TonguelaceType> in the day she would then go straight to the Oval Theatre house in London almost every evenings on weekdays and at the weekends she would attend The Italia Conti Academy in <st1:Street><st1:address>Landor Road</st1:address></st1:Street>, Stockwell as well as singing in the Gospel Choir (Y2PRAISE) of her local Church. (Elim Camberwell).

But the really demanding work began when at the age of 16 she left <st1TonguelaceName>Pimlico</st1TonguelaceName> <st1TonguelaceType>School</st1TonguelaceType> and was accepted in The Brits School of Performing Arts and Technology where she studied Musical Theatre.

"I'm so proud of the fact that I have accomplished so much in such a short space of time, the training has been so hard but at the end of the day it all has been very rewarding".

As well as attending all of her training sessions she has continued to perform in the choir and this year (2009) will make it almost 10 years to the day.

"Even though all the amount of training I have had in the past has helped me, I feel it was all the years of singing in the choir that has really boosted my confidence".

Aisha has collaborated with many various artists in innovative musical projects and the last one being the Gospel Album "At This Time" with Angela Blackett

Aisha is constantly challenging herself with various aspect of singing. She is more than versatile. She recently challenged herself (17 February 2007) at performing live in a chorale composition in the Ghanaian Language at the Westminster Methodist Chapel (London) on the Occasion of the 50th Anniversary of Ghana Independence.

She was a member of the Livewire Band an offshoot of the South Thames College Music Department. The Livewire Band went on to win Gold at the Wordskill National Challenge in 2008.

She then successfully gained admission to the Bristol Institute Of Modern Music (BIMM) and was one of the first intakes of students who gained a Professional Diploma in Modern Music from the New BIMM (Bristol).

Interview

Tell us about yourself including your family situation?

Well, I’m 21 years old, born in1988 in Brixton, South London. I come from an average sized family with Mum, Dad, and 2 sisters: Roxane and Alexandra.

How did you hear about Just out of this World?

I actually heard about this from Sister Agatha who is the wife of Rev Hilla Bossoh the pastor of the Elim Pentecostal Church Mitcham.

What made you enter the competition?

I chose to enter because I wanted to give it one more shot at being a singer and the fact that it was a gospel competition is even better as I must use any way I can to draw more people to God.

What sort of artist do you see yourself as and what do you have to offer as a gospel artist?

I see myself as a Pop/RnB Christian Artist and I also do different genres as well. As a gospel artist who has been in the choir of a very vibrant <st1TonguelaceName>Pentecostal</st1TonguelaceName> <st1TonguelaceType>Church</st1TonguelaceType> since I was 11 years old I see myself as being God’s tool in enhancing all praises due to Him from His people.

Why should the public vote for you as the gospel artist that is just out of this World?

I want to be that Pop/RnB Christian Artist who is a British contemporary singer of which there are not many. I would want to fill that gap and draw my people to the Lord. . I would also like for my artistry to reach people of my age and generation and help them draw nearer to Him. When someone listen to me singing and wants to know more of God that would be the biggest praise I could offer Him.

What would it mean to you if you won the competition?

I would be extremely happy. It would be the stepping stone from where I would forward my career. It would also prove that I can make a living as a Christian Artist. My parents have sacrificed a lot to help me pursue my ambition and that would be a gift to them as well. My Church, Elim Pentecostal Church Camberwell has encouraged me and is always behind me in all my singing endeavours, that would be for them as well.

Tell us something interesting about you (keep it clean please)?

Trained in theatre acting – taught myself how to play the bass guitar. I have a pretty random sense of humor and I am lactose intolerant. Was a member of the Livewire Band at <st1TonguelaceName>South</st1TonguelaceName> <st1TonguelaceName>Thames</st1TonguelaceName> <st1TonguelaceType>College</st1TonguelaceType> and won the Gold Award in Popular Music at the National Wordskills Challenge2008.

Who is your biggest fan?

My Mum!

What is your favourite bible verse?

Psalm 32:7

You are my hiding place

You shall preserve me from trouble

You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.

What is your favourite quote?

Whatever doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger!

If you're not singing, what else would you be doing?

I would be involved in Media Production.
